Rose Garden Homes - FAQ

Q. What is "assisted living" and how does it differ from a nursing home?
A. 'Assisted Living' is a generic term used to describe a variety of living arrangements with services that fall between in-home care and traditional nursing home care. Assisted living offers many benefits for older adults to lead indepentent lives while feeling safe and comfortable because of the 24-hour assistance and companionship that is available.

Q. Does Rose Garden Homes provide Allzheimer's Care?
A. Rose Garden is NOT a "locked unit" with special programs or staffing for persons with advanced Alzheimer's disease. However, Alzheimer's and many other dementias progress very slowly, sometimes for up to 20 years. Many older adults have problems with memory loss, which may or may not be related to Alzheimer's disease. This memory loss does not keep them from benefiting from the various types of activities and programs at Rose Garden Homes. There are times we do not accept people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, depending on whether or not we can safely meet that person's needs. An assessment is required prior to admission.

Q. Will I have to move to a nursing home?
A. Rose Garden Homes has adopted an "Aging In Place" philosophy. Choosing Rose Garden may be the last time you will need to move. In many cases, home health and hospice services may be used to supplement the care provided by Rose Garden. If a resident requires a more secure environment, Rose Garden will work along with you and your family in order to obtain a smooth transition to an environment that better meets your needs.

Q. What will assisted living cost?
A.
  • Single Rooms start at $2610.00/month* $87.00 a day.
  • Double Rooms (single person only) start at $2125.00/month*
  • Double Rooms (shared husband and wife) start at $3575.00/month*

Above are rates for basic, Level 1 care. We can explain our rate structure for our 3 Levels of Care and Aging-in-Place when you come for a tour. Rose Garden Homes is an excellent value.

The cost of Rose Garden per day is:

  • Less than a night in a good hotel room
  • Half the cost of a semi-private room in a nursing home
  • A fraction of the cost of private duty in your home

Remember, your cost INCLUDES:

  • Friendly, trained staff available 24 hours a day to assist as needed with dressing, mobility, bathroom tasks, and sudden emergencies.
  • Quality care coordinated by RN's and LPN's, advocating for older adults and their families.
  • Assistance with medications (except injections)
  • 3 delicious homemade meals and an evening snack
  • Frequent opportunities for social and intellectual stimulation and spiritual growth
  • Cable TV, local telephone, housekeeping, and laundry services
  • Bed linens and towels
  • Coordination with home health or hospice when needed

Q. What if I run out of money?
A. At Rose Garden Homes, we are very aware of the fears of outliving your money. We ask only that you keep us apprised of your situation, so that we can assist you in discussing alternate strategies for affordable living arrangements.

Q. How will I adjust to leaving my home?
A.

Meet our residents, staff, families and volunteers. Surround yourself with your favorite belongings in the privacy of your own spacious room. Before you know it, you'll realize that living at Rose Garden is a great choice for you because:

  • Companionship, a variety of activities, and homemade meals with peers soon replace the loneliness and boredom of living alone.
  • Time with family is better quality since we perform care giving tasks for you.
  • Caring professional staff, available day and night, provide a sense of comfort and security. You can enjoy the independence you want and still receive the care that you need in a Christian environment with fun, love and respect.

Q. Is there much staff turnover?
A. As of our 10th anniversary as an assisted living home, we are proud that over 2/3 of our staff have been working at Rose Garden for over a year and many for several years including the Administrator and the Director of Resident Services.

Q. What does "Licensing" mean?
A.

'Assisted Living' for older adults in Michigan includes both licensed and unlicensed facilities. If licensed, the home will be designated by the State of Michigan as and AFC (Adult Foster Care) if it has 1-20 beds or HFA (Home for the Aged) if it has 21 or more beds. Licensed assisted living homes always include room, board and a defined level of personal care services in their service agreement, so you know what you're buying.

The State of Michigan Department of Human Services makes regular inspections of licensed homes to assure their quality. Citizens for Better Care can offer information on licensed homes or advocate for a resident in a licensed home.

Unlicensed assisted living homes tend to be apartment style living spaces with a la cart services and few consumer protections. Always ask a home about its license.
